Design Engineer

Leverage your inspiration; automate the perspiration.

RemoteFull-time

The Role

We are looking for a Design Engineer to masterfully choreograph how users experience our product. You will be the customer whisperer, UX designer, and a builder on the front end, writing and shipping code through AI agents and working alongside the software team to transform what you learn from user conversations into a product users love. You will set, help implement, and enforce exacting standards for our product interface. This role demands an aptitude for translating complex systems and processes into a simple, intuitive user experience, as well as professional engineering chops and genuine curiosity about the people we serve. You will own the full loop, from raw user insight to the emotional journey our customers experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Talk to Customers: As an active participant in customer development, interview and observe customers, then integrate what you learn into well-articulated pain points and opportunities to delight.
  • Design the Experience: Work with the product manager to prioritize which opportunities to pursue, then lead the generation of possible solutions and own the complete design of the one we choose.
  • Implement the Design: Working alongside the software team, use AI agents and your own engineering prowess to build your designs into shippable front-end code.
  • Champion the User: Live in the product every day, and be the user advocate who fights for the best possible customer experience in every internal decision.

You're a good fit if you...

  • Elegantly Wrangle Complexity: Your portfolio demonstrates mastery at designing intuitive interfaces for non-intuitive, deeply technical products, not just pretty landing pages or WordPress sites.
  • Build What You Design: You don’t stop at wireframes and Figma; you implement. You're fluent in modern front end (e.g. React), write production-ready code, and wield AI agents as leverage without ever outsourcing your judgment.
  • Listen, but also Watch: You’re genuinely fascinated by people, so you learn as much from what customers do as from what they say. You catch the disconnect when someone's stated intent and their actual clicks tell two different stories.
  • Border on Perfectionism: Every misplaced pixel, unnecessary button, unclear presentation, or needless friction hurts your soul, and you work tirelessly to build interfaces that turn Apple designers green with envy.
  • Run on Your Own Fuel: You do your best work armed with a goal and the freedom to execute it. On a remote team this small, no one hands you a task list and checks your homework; you look for ways to act effectively without waiting to be told, and you answer for the results.

Why you should apply now

  • Build from the ground floor: Work directly with serial entrepreneurs.
  • Help small businesses win: The better the product you build, the better they compete with the giants.
  • Own the craft: How the product looks and feels is yours to shape, with real creative latitude, and no design-by-committee grinding down your best ideas.
  • True autonomy: Work remotely with freedom, responsibility, and trust.
  • Step into a role that didn't exist two years ago: AI collapses the handoff between designing and building. The people who master that collapse become something new and rare, and you'll be one of them.
